Class A Asbestos Clearances

What you need to know

When asbestos containing material (ACM) is in place, it is typically, but not always, called non-friable. This means that it cannot easily be crushed by the hand and release the asbestos fibres. If fibres are released in sufficient quantities then it is described as friable. These are important distinctions if considering its removal.

In addition, there are products which are prone to become friable during removal. Typical examples are vinyl flooring and textured (popcorn) ceilings.

When it becomes sufficiently friable, the removal has to be completed by a WorkSafe NZ licensed Class A Asbestos removal company. In addition, a WorkSafe NZ licensed Class A Asbestos Assessor, independant of the removal company, has to undertake initial inspection, monitoring during removal, and final inspections and clearance monitoring. This is where OHS SafeAssist Ltd comes into the picture. Denis has over eight years experience of conducting Class A asbestos clearances and works proactively with you and the removal company to ensure the removal site is clear of asbestos on the completion of the job.
